These 4 Biotechs Have Been On Fire

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrials continue to march higher. At some point the party will end, but for now, new highs are a daily occurrence.

Some of the best performing industries over this latest stock market tear have been airlines, metals and semiconductors.

However, as has been the case for most of the year, biotechnology has been one of the best.

And which biotech names have been the best of that breed? Below is a list of the top 4 performing biotech stocks over the last month.

Coming in at #4 would be Achillion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ACHN).

Achillion has increased by 46.49 percent over the last month and close at $14.81 on Friday.

Next up on the list would be Agios Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AGIO).

Agios just barely came in ahead of Achillion with a 47.13 percent increase during the same 30-day period of time. The stock ended last week at $106.02.

The 2nd biggest biotech gains over the last month have come from Amicus Therapeutics (NASDAQ: FOLD).

The only thing closer than the race for the 3rd and 4th place spot was the neck and neck finish between 3rd and 2nd place. Amicus increased by 47.20 percent, just barely edging out Agios.

However, the race for 1st wasn’t as close thanks to the performance of Orexigen Therapeutics (NASDAQ: OREX).

Orexigen has more than doubled in the last month having gained 50.13 percent. The stock closed on Friday at $5.78.

Obviously, investors must conduct their own due diligence before investing in any stock, but stocks having the best gains now could very well be the stocks having great gains in the future.

The biotech stocks considered for this review were confined to those over $5 per share that traded at least 500K shares a day based on a 90-day average.
